by Aaron Springer and Sarah Springer
Using a recent road-trip to New Mexico as a catalyst, Sarah and her brother Aaron began exploring themes of nature and landscape. The works of this exhibition are the ultimate result of that exploration.
Sarah is a third year printmaking major. She has a preference for etching because of its apparent simplicity (both in process and result), its ability to render compelling detail, and the joy she derives from the mechanical pulling of prints.
Aaron (BFA '01) is a recent graduate of the Art Department. He uses large-format photography to bring attention to subtle details or relationships that he sees in the surrounding environment and in nature. (Aaron's photographs can be viewed at aaron.springer.com.)
Viewers of this exhibition will enjoy comparing and contrasting how two tightly connected artists approach the subjects of nature and landscape. Viewers will discover that Sarah and Aaron, both working in mechanical mediums and often traveling together to perform research, arrive at very diverse visual destinations in their respective etchings and photographs.
